3 Things You Can Do To Keep Your Shower Looking Its Best

Glass shower enclosures are a beautiful addition to your house. One downside is that it is easier to see if your shower is dirty. Nevertheless, with just a few different chemicals and products, you can make your own cleaners and keep your bathroom looking great.

Squeegees

The squeegee is the underrated hero of a glass shower wall. The best thing you can do to keep your shower looking great all the time is to use a squeegee to scrape off the water from your glass and other shower surfaces after every shower. Because it takes care of all the water on the surfaces, it doesn't give water time to dry and create hard water or other mineral spots.

Ammonia and vinegar

Two wonderful all-purpose cleaners are ammonia and vinegar. You don't want to mix the 2 chemicals because vinegar is an acid and ammonia is a base; together they can create dangerous fumes and salts. They would also become neutral and lose their cleaning power. However, they both do a great job on glass.

Mix 1 tablespoon of either vinegar or ammonia to 1 quart of water and you have a fabulous glass cleaner. Vinegar works best if you have hard water stains, because the acid reacts positively with the minerals left over on the glass. If it's fingerprints and other things that you are trying to eliminate, use the ammonia solution.

Use either one of these cleaners in a spray bottle and wipe the surface down with newspaper. The ink doesn't rub off on the glass and the newsprint helps your glass to dry streak-free.

Vinegar and Dish Soap

Once your glass is clean, it's time to tackle the shower. The biggest culprit in any shower area is soap scum. This residue builds up and is left over from all the soap that you use to get clean. Over time small amounts get left on the surface of your shower and build up. This collects dirt and other debris and ends up looking and feeling disgusting.

Mix together 1 tablespoon of dish soap and 1 tablespoon of vinegar with 1 quart of water. Spray this mixture over the areas that have soap scum buildup and let it sit for a few minutes. After about 10 minutes, go back and wipe it down. The soap scum will come completely clean without any hard scrubbing or left over residue.

As you take care of your shower area, it will be a beautiful part of your home for many years to come!
